Born in Washington, D.C., Jeff Ward grew up in Radnor, Pennsylvania, where he began acting in theatrical productions, before attending Tisch School of the Arts alongside Miles Teller, and the Stella Adler School for Acting. His early career featured roles on shows including Law & Order: Criminal Intent, Body of Proof, Next Time on Lonny, Open Season and The Mentalist, and TV movies like Holly’s Holiday, Heavenly and Beautiful People. He received significant attention for the first time, however, as Charles Manson in Manson’s Lost Girls, a role he accepted because he felt that “people inherently have a slightly dark side.” He then starred as Seth Marlowe in the second season of the critically acclaimed horror anthology series Channel Zero, No-End House.

From horror to heroes, Jeff landed the role of the time travelling Deke Shaw on Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Originally cast as Virgil, a minor character who dies in the first episode of season 5, during the table read of the episode the main cast decided Jeff “nailed it” as Virgil and wanted him to stay on as Deke, who had not yet been cast. After the reading, the show producers had Jeff audition for Deke, and he ultimately was cast, before growing the character from a recurring part to a series regular.

From the MCU, Jeff moved to the critically acclaimed, multiple Emmy-winning Hacks, in a short, but extremely memorable role of George, before being cast in the major role of Roy Hardaway on Netflix’s horror drama Brand New Cherry Flavor. Jeff then guest-starred on PEN15 before starring opposite Toni Collette in the podcast series Madam Ram.

Jeff landed his latest and greatest role in September 2022, when he was cast as Buggy the Clown in the smash hit Netflix series One Piece, based on the wildly popular anime of the same name, a fan-favourite part that has earned him many plaudits.

Still involved in theatre, Jeff debuted as a director with the Off-Broadway production of John Patrick Shanley’s Danny and the Deep Blue Sea at the Lucille Lortel Theatre, starring Aubrey Plaza and Christopher Abbott, with Jeff acting as Abbott’s understudy. He’s continuing to stretch his wings into the directing sphere with the upcoming film Strangers.
