Pom Klementieff

Pom Klementieff is a French actress. Her parents chose her name because it’s similar in pronunciation to the Korean words for both “spring” and “tiger”. She started acting at age 19 at the Cours Florent drama school in Paris, winning a two year scholarship a few months into her education.

Pom’s first professional acting role was in the French independent film Après lui, portraying the stepdaughter of Catherine Deneuve and her first leading role was in Loup (aka Wolf), a French film about a tribe of reindeer herders in the Siberian mountains.

Pom made her Hollywood debut in Spike Lee’s Oldboy as Haeng-Bok, the bodyguard of the villain played by Sharlto Copley. A fan of the original, Pom took boxing lessons to secure the role and later trained three hours a day for two months for her fight with Josh Brolin. At Spike Lee’s request, Pom came up with the name Haeng-Bok, Korean for “happiness”. She subsequently moved to Los Angeles, landing roles in the films Hacker’s Game, Ingrid Goes West and Newness.

Pom hit it big in 2017, joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Mantis in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, a role she has reprised in Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame, Thor: Love and Thunder, The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3, as well as the Guardians of the Galaxy: Inferno music video and in the Disneyland ride, Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission Breakout!

Besides a number of other movies and short films with high profile actors including Bill Skarsgård and Uma Thurman, Pom has featured in the critically acclaimed series Black Mirror and Westworld, the family friendly animated The Addams Family film, the super hero comedy Thunder Force, opposite Melissa McCarthy, Octavia Spencer and Jason Bateman, and made a cameo appearance for her Guardians director, James Gunn, in DC’s The Suicide Squad.

Pom has recently joined another massive franchise, starring opposite Tom Cruise in Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One, a role she’s returned to in the upcoming Mission: Impossible film.
