Sam Phillips is an English actor, who studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. On stage he has played Bertram Cates, the accused schoolteacher in Inherit the Wind at the Old Vic, Claudio in Much Ado About Nothing at Shakespeare’s Globe and Lockwood in the National Theatre’s West End run of The History Boys, amongst other roles.

On TV Sam had starring roles in the children’s comedy Hotel Trubble as Jamie, and as Spencer Cavendish in the third series of The Syndicate, starring alongside Anthony Andrews, Alice Krige, Lenny Henry, and Richard Rankin. He also appeared in Far From The Madding Crowd, In The Flesh, Pete versus Life, Micro Men, My Family and EastEnders: E20, and played the Queen’s Equerry, Stephen Chambers, in seasons 3 and 4 of The Crown, opposite Olivia Colman.

Most recently, Sam’s profile has exploded, with his breakout role on Netflix’s massive hit series, Bridgerton, playing Lord Debling, a love interest and suitor of season 3’s lead character, Penelope Featherington.
